American Refugees

I posted about American refugees today. It's something I rarely see people talking about, even though it is increasingly common. Environmental disasters (e.g. wildfires, floods, hurricanes) can displace tens of thousands of people at once, or more. They're internally displaced persons, but also climate refugees. Nobody wants to recognize climate refugees as a category, but they're among the biggest, and they have no rights, and it's only going to get worse. The government is wiping out references to climate change, which is worsening the environmental disasters. Americans are fleeing their homes because of persecution, or they got fired for speaking up, or people banned the health care they need to survive.

Meanwhile the government is going, "Don't talk about climate changes, don't talk about queer people, don't talk about trans people, don't talk about how racism affects people of color or sexism affects women," on and on. Fuck it. Somebody has to say something or problems don't get solved. Be Somebody.

Thanks for this and for Being Somebody yourself. And yes, I agree. The more people push back against authoritarian repressive governments, and or ones that seem to be deliberately heading toward disaster, the better.

Oh, it's deliberate. They want the government small enough to drown in the bathtub, and that's exactly what they're doing.
